Well, no change for me on the scale, I'm still 5 Lbs down from when we restarted. But..... two people this week told me that they had noticed that I had lost a significant amount of weight. On Tuesday,my run club coach told me that I had had the biggest change in body of anyone in my run club. And then, later on Tuesday, my boyfriend pointed it out, out of the blue. So, no scale change, but apparently, still big improvements. I'm still running twice a week even though it's cold and slippery. Rollerderby is on hiatus, but I'm supplementing with extra runs on the weekend.
Also, I don't know if I mentioned, but I've signed up for a 5k and a 10k.

Feel the burn
I am the same this week which is fine. I've finally got my ass in gear and have been going to the gym regularily and lifting weights. I was slacking on the cardio end (just concentrating on lifting weights) but hopped on the treadmill today and plan to go back again tomorrow.
I need to rework my thoughts on food if you will. I think rather than trying to follow my nutrition plan (which is great but eating the same thing with a few rotations isn't going to work for me) or trying to eat light TV dinners everyday (because the calories/fat are all right there) I need to just focus on eating healthy things. I know it's not rocket science but I have a tendency to try this, try that, maybe this will work, do this and I always end up back at square one. So my friends, i'm going to try the old fashioned way.....fruits, veggies, salads...and if I want some pasta i'll get whole wheat and eat a smaller portion with a salad rather than a big huge plate of pasta as was the norm before. We'll see what the results are in two weeks :)

I'm a serious runner now
I just signed up for a 5k run in December and a 10k run in May. It's very intimidating signing up for these things because the race websites show the finish line pictures from the year before and it's muscular people in short shorts glistening their way accross the finish line. Why doesn't Richard Simmons have a line of running races for fat people? He could call it 'Running to the Oldies' or 'Sweatin' while you run to the Oldies' and you could all listen to fun music while you drag your blubbery ass accross the finish line in non-form fitting running attire.
Sheesh.
Anyway, I'm doing it. I feel ready for the 5k already, as long as the course is relatively flat, I think I'll make it. The 10k I'm not so sure about, but I'm sure I'll be there by May.
Second thing, why do they start so early in the morning? Only losers get up that early on the weekend, because they didn't have anything (or anyone) to do on Saturday night. So are all runners losers?
For better or for worse, today when I signed up for these races, I signed up to be a member of a club for glistening muscular losers. I'm sick of being hip and fat, I think I'll be unhip and fit for a while.
Thursday report - no change in weight, but I did increase my running distance to 4.26k on Tuesday, and competed in the Toronto Rollerderby Championships, so I do deserve a break. But when I saw the video of myself in the championship game, I realized how very fat I really am. So hopefully, lots of running will be my salvation.
Sheesh.

Another Setback
Tuesday night I couldn't sleep. At 2am I got out of bed and headed for the freezer. I pulled out an ice cream sandwich (the yummy kind that is two chocolate chip cookies with ice cream and chocolate chips stuffed in the middle) and devoured it. I normally wouldn't even have such a thing in my house but the people who lived here before me had bought them and left them behind "in case I wanted them." Oh, and did I mention I also ate a giant waffle cone filled with ice cream on Sunday... and on Monday I did the same (this time the cone was also covered in chocolate and sprinkles). And now today is Thanksgiving... who knows how much I'll eat today (at least turkey is healthy, but I can't say the same about pumpkin pie). Heaven help me!

Thursday November 15
This month has been up and down for me. Since we've restarted the BL, I've lost 3 pounds. In the past few weeks I've not only managed to gain those 3 back, plus a few more......and then I lost a few and am currently at my starting weight. Did any of that make sense :)
( I essentially lost 3, gained 6 and lost 3 again).
I've been slacking big time in the exercise area and have been to the gym like 3 times in the past month, though I'm still playing vball and taking yoga weekly. As well my diet has been poor at best, pizza, fries, veggie burgers, subs....I've been eating it all.
I have given myself a little kick in the ass and I'm going to at least focus on either the eating or the exercise. I've got to do something because I've been feeling like an absolute disgusting cow these past few days and I truly can't go on like this.

Hop to it everyone!
I haven't seen a weigh-in post from anyone in weeks. I expect to hear from everyone this Thursday. No slacking!
As of last Thursday I had lost the .6 pounds I gained from the cookie dough event a few weeks back. I am now on even ground. We'll see what the scale says Thursday.

Off the wagon
Today I fell off the wagon. It’s been a little rough lately and I have been eating more than normal but today I totally lost it. I was stuck at work late and when I finally left there I rushed to the grocery store with a crazy urge for chocolate chip cookies. On the drive from the store to my house I eyed the cookie dough tube like it was a long lost lover or something. I walked in the door to the house and I didn’t even acknowledge Puppy or take him for his usual walk I just ripped open the cookie dough and chowed down. And here’s the scary part – I don’t even like raw cookie dough very much. But, somehow, the thought of waiting for the oven to pre-heat and forming all those little balls of dough and then waiting for them to cook was too much for me. I just couldn’t wait and I tore into the batter like there was no tomorrow… and then I baked the cookies… while eating more dough… and then I ate the cookies too… with lots of milk (skim at least).
Finally I came to my senses and stopped myself. I scooped up the rest of the uneaten cookies and put them in a Tupperware container to take to work tomorrow. Obviously I can’t be trusted with them.
Heaven help me at my next weigh-in!

Few days late
Sorry to post so late I was away until Saturday and I didn't post on the 18th. My weight stayed the same. My gym was closed for the week as it moved so I was only able to get in a yoga class and a volleyball game for exercise. I did however walk a gagillion miles at this huge mall so I wasn't completely lazy.
I was back at the gym today (which is hot as hell at the new place) and I have a vball game this evening.....and I made my lunch today. So hopefully my numbers will go down next time :)

Slow but Steady
So this week was a bit different for me as I hurt my back, missed yoga and missed the gym. I did however get to see my chiropractor a whole lot. That being said i've lost 2 pounds in the last two weeks. Not much, but I am happy that it is a loss and not a gain. I have been keeping a food/exercise journal as well, to see if it will help to pinpoint where I can improve.
I did look up the nutrition facts for a few of my old favorites and holy shit, I had no idea the amount of fat and calories in these things. Seriously, every now and again I would get a Green Tea Frappucino and an Oatmeal Fudge Bar....ummmm turns out that "snack" is like almost 1000 calories.

Jennifer down 5lbs, Ash down 1lb
So we weighed in for the first time in the new renewed BL competition last Thursday. I was expecting Ash to write a post about the results, but I guess she was embarrassed.... or maybe her fingers are too fat to hit the keys on the keyboard of her computer.
Anyway, Ashley slogged her way through two difficult weeks of diet and exercise and only lost 1 lb. I didn't do my initial weigh in until half way through the first week, then I didn't eat less or exercise more than I normally do, but I did have an extremely stressful week including a close family member surgery having surgery. After all that, I lost 5 lbs.
The message here is probably not going lead anyone towards a clean living lifestyle... but the important thing is that I won bitches! Wahaha, I didn't even try....
Ash, I hope you bring it next week, I hurt myself at rollerderby last night (photos to follow on my blog if there's any worthwhile bruise), so I can't do much exercise, but I'm still stressed out so I'll probably keep shrinking.

Trying
So it's been almost a week of trying to stay on track. I've been doing rather well lots of yogurt, veggies and such. I've also been exercising, riding my bike and swimming mostly, still trying to grasp onto every last bit of nice weather though i've seen the inside of the gym as well.
I've also layed off the booze to see if that helps at all and i've made it one of my 100 goals to be liqour free for one month. I did enjoy a plate of fried zucchini the other evening with Jennifer but that has been my only treat and damn it was good. If i'm dying for something sweet I'll have a protein shake from the gym or I bought some weight watchers desserts and some low fat chocolate ice cream treats. So far i'm feeling ok with it all though I better see some results next week at weigh in time or I will most likely be incredibly discouraged.

Italian town to pay residents to shed flab
MILAN (Reuters) - Overweight residents of an Italian town will be paid to lose weight, the mayor said on Monday.
Men living in the northwestern Italian town of Varallo will receive 50 euros ($70) for losing 4 kg (9 pounds) in a month, Mayor Gianluca Buonanno said. Women will get the same amount for shedding 3 kg (7 pounds).
If they can keep the weight off for 5 months, they will get another 200 euros ($280), he told Reuters.
"Lots of people are saying, 'I really need to lose some weight but it's really tough.' So I thought, why don't we go on a group diet?" said Buonanno, who said he was about 6 kg (13 pounds) overweight.
The town of 7,500 people started the campaign on Friday and some residents have already signed up, he said.
Around 35 percent of Italians are overweight or obese, according to European Union figures, with waistlines expanding as the country's healthy Mediterranean diet has given way to processed foods rich in fat, sugar and salt.

End Results
In the end, after several months of running (and hating it) and not being able to eat anything that tasted good...
I lost 30 lbs and walked away with a flat stomach and a new wardrobe.
It was all worth it...because all McSteamy could keep saying was how hot I was and what a nice body I had.
I took an exercise break during his visit but I'll be back to the grind tomorrow and shock above shock...I've realized that I no longer like fast food. :o( I'm craving the bland tasteless crap I've been eating over the last few months. Go figure.

Back to the grind
Ash and I were out this weekend and she was telling me that she's gained 10 lbs since we took our hiatus. It turns out that while attempting to lose weight, she ended up maintaining instead, but while attempting to maintain she gained. I have also gained weight since we last weighed ourselves here, however my clothes are not significantly tighter, and I've run twice a week and had skate practice twice a week.
Anyway, I think for Ashley's sake we should all get back to the gym and start posting again, otherwise she'll get trapped in her house, seriously, Montel will have to rescue her.
Here's a thought I had, let me know what you think. We should look at other forms of evaluation. I don't anticipate my weight changing significantly for the rest of the summer because of all the training. So, for example, I could measure my circumference, and then give any reductions as a percentage. But if you wanted to keep going with the scale and measure your weight, you could present any losses as a percentage. Or we could just all switch over to measuring, it's really size we're aiming to lose anyway right? Thoughts?
Also, what day of the week would you want to start? I feel a weekday is best since most people don't blog on the weekend.
We'd be starting with new weights/measurements.

Drum Roll Please
I know that no one posts here anymore because we're all crazy busy.
BUT....I've lost 15 lbs!! Woohoo!
Just PLEASE don't mention anything about it on my blog. I don't need Captain McSteamy to KNOW that I needed to lose 15 lbs. LOL.

Joggers targeted in `sick game' of chase
Winnipeg police say teen car thieves tried to hit runners
Mar 14, 2007 04:30 AM
Steve Lambert
Canadian Press
WINNIPEG–Police have arrested three teenagers they say were engaged in a "sick game" of driving around in stolen cars and trying to hit joggers.
Police allege the youths, between the ages of 13 and 16, stole a car last Thursday and made repeated runs at joggers along a posh Winnipeg street.
"It looks ... like it was some sort of sick game where you might just want to hit them with the mirrors," Sgt. Doug Safioles said yesterday. "There's no indication ... someone was trying to deliberately run them down."
One man suffered minor injuries, but a 49-year-old man running just a few blocks away sustained serious head injuries and remains in hospital.
Two of the accused have lengthy records for stealing vehicles and were being monitored by the justice system under a special Manitoba program for youths convicted of repeated vehicle thefts, Safioles said.
One teen disappeared three weeks ago after failing to respond to a curfew check, he said.
The youths were arrested Sunday after one allegedly stole five vehicles in one evening. Because of their ages, none of the accused can be identified. They face many charges, including dangerous driving causing bodily harm, theft and failure to comply with a probation order.
Kids who steal vehicles are looking for kicks and often don't care whether someone gets hurt, suggested Safioles, of the police force's stolen auto unit.
"A lot of these kids suffer from intellectual disabilities," he said. "What they lack is a little voice in the back of their head that tells the rest of us at some point that `this is too dangerous and we should stop.'"
The case has led to a political debate over how to crack down on auto theft. Manitoba's Opposition Conservatives want convicted vehicle thieves to be forced to wear electronic ankle bracelets after they are released from custody, so their movements can be monitored.
The NDP government announced yesterday it will temporarily double the cash rewards in the Crime Stoppers program for information about auto thefts that involve injuries.

Dear Lord
Ughhh I gained a significant amount of weight this week.....how shameful. The only saving grace i have is Aunt Flow is having a visit. When she comes around I tend to gain a pound or two, which disappears when she leaves. So my friends, I have gained 4 pounds this week EEEGAD!!!
My friend gave me this silly soup cleansing thing that i'm going to try on Sunday for a week. It's actually not bad at all.....and no it's not the cabbage soup diet. It's full of beans and veggies and you can eat other things as well. Hopefully next week will be more promising. I stuffed myself today full of cake and Japanese food.....it was my special day!!!!

Nothing to report on this end. I'm the same as last week. I thought for sure the skiing, volleyball and Kickboxing class would help out a bit, however the Indian food i ate today i'm sure did not help :)

This is why I don't go jogging...
Fine convinces naked California jogger to keep his clothes on
Published: Friday, February 16, 2007 | 10:24 AM ET

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - A man with a habit of jogging in a park wearing nothing but a pair of running shoes plans to keep his clothes on after being fined $95 for indecent exposure.
Darryl Delacruz, a Silicon Valley engineer, said he would miss the "liberating feeling" of running naked in Fremont Older Open Space Preserve. But he conceded his personal comfort was less important than the discomfort he caused others.
"I'll go back, but I'll be wearing clothes," he said. "I don't want people to have the wrong impression."
After other park users complained about Delacruz streaking, park rangers kept an eye out for him and finally caught him in the buff Jan. 9. People are allowed to sunbathe naked in the park, but only out of the sight of others.
"We don't see it as appropriate behaviour," said Kerry Carlson, president of the Midpeninsula Rangers Peace Officers Association. "A significant number of people feel uncomfortable with a nude person running around."
Delacruz, 43, said his preferred jogging attire was "about getting in touch with nature, not meeting people."

Watch out
I swear if i've gained any weight on this trip it will be due to pure muscle. We've walked up countless stairs, for countless hours eating here and there but not often. Usually one meal and breaky if we can grab it.

More Motivation...
Is Your Weight Hurting Your Career?
By CareerBuilder.com
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that 65 percent of U.S. adults -- or about 129.6 million people -- are either overweight or obese. Does weight have any bearing in the workplace? According to Miriam Berg, president of the Council on Size and Weight Discrimination, it does. "The biggest obstacle larger-than-average workers face is prejudice, and the second biggest obstacle is the fact that many large people believe that prejudice themselves," Berg says. "Our culture is obsessed with weight loss, and there is a tremendous amount of bias against people who do not fit into the narrow definition of what is attractive. "Obesity in current society is a stigmatized condition," notes Cornell University researcher and nutritional sociologist Jeffery Sobal. "People who are obese are rejected and discriminated against." In addition to the emotional cost, the financial costs of being overweight can be high, too. In a study by Charles L. Baum, Ph.D., of Middle Tennessee State University, obesity was found to lower a woman's annual earnings an average of 4.5 percent. Over a lifetime career, that can be as much as $100,000. Baum found that obesity for men could lower annual earnings by as much as 2.3 percent. In a separate study by John H. Cawley, associate professor at Cornell University, a weight increase of 64 pounds above the average for white women was associated with 9 percent lower wages. CSWD says that heavier workers are also not given raises as often as thinner workers, citing a study of more than 2000 adults that found wage growth rates were 6 percent lower in a three-year period for heavier workers. One factor that seems to drive this bias is the cost of health insurance. The CDC has reported that obesity and overweight costs an estimated $117 billion in both direct medical costs and indirect costs, such as lost wages due to illness. Whether conscious or not, some employers may offer less pay to obese workers to offset higher health insurance costs. "The research showing less productivity and more health problems in large size workers is flawed," Berg asserts. "The false idea that larger workers are less productive is a blatant attempt to deny the fact of weight discrimination. Large workers are denied promotions, are paid less, and are subject to being fired simply because of their size, no matter how excellent their qualifications are or how well they do their jobs."In a 2005 survey by TheLadders.com, 75 percent of executives said that being overweight is a "serious career impediment." Berg says she's heard many versions of the same story from her clients: "After reading his or her resume, the company was eager to hire the applicant. The phone interview went very well, and the person was practically assured of the job. But when he or she came face to face with the interviewer, everything changed. Suddenly the job had 'already been filled'." Those who apply for positions that interact with the public may feel the biggest sting. "Many employers are not prejudiced themselves, but are afraid that customers may be put off by a plus-size employee, especially in jobs such as receptionist or salesperson," Berg notes.Jim McSherry, managing partner of McSherry & Associates 2, a recruiting firm in Westchester, IL, says that extremely overweight applicants may indeed struggle in their job search, especially in companies that are very health conscious. "When two competing candidates are equally qualified, often it is not their appearance that ultimately hurts the overweight candidate, it is his or her self-confidence," McSherry says. "[But] if a candidate is really outstanding, their size will not be an issue." "When a large person is looking for a job, we recommend doing your homework, dressing for success, putting your best foot forward, and, most importantly, addressing any potential objections a potential employer might have," Berg suggests. "There is no reason not to bring up your size -- it's the elephant in the room, so to speak. If you are healthy, tell the interviewer that you have not missed a day of work in five years, or however long it is. Point out how strong or fit or flexible you are, or mention that you have great stamina." Being healthy doesn't simply mean losing weight. "Our advice to large size people in general is to be as healthy as they can be," Berg declares. "Some of the ways we suggest are enjoying life, reducing stress, being physically active, and eating a variety of nutritious foods."

Shite
Alright so i totally fell off the wagon and decided to eat whatever i felt like. I didn't count the WW points and thus have gained 2 pounds. It's shitty because i was doing well enough losing a pound a week or so. I suck. I won't be around to weigh in next week but the following week after eating crumpets and tea should be interesting....oh and the crepes in Paris, so yummy.

New Member
Hi kids, new year, new member. My chubby cousin Sarah has decided to join us. She took her baseline weight on Thursday, and she'll be putting up her results with the rest of us on Thursday. Welcome Sarah!
PP was also supposed to join us this week, but she's full of excuses for why she can't. I guess she's chicken.
Happy dieting kids!
I'm still on track with my crazy hippy brown rice thingy.

Woo woo!
I lost 3 lbs. I'm still above my lowest weight. But since I only started the wacky hippy plan on Monday, and I ate my face off all weekend, that's a pretty big accomplishment.

New Plan... cause the old one's not working...

So, I didn't lose anything this week. Which is less of a dissapointment than last week because I've been at work a lot, and we had fewer practices this week, and I skipped one due to knee pain (hope I don't have to go back to physio!).
Howver, I was sitting in the lunch room today eating low fat black bean soup and a couple of the other girls came in and started talking about this diet they were planning on doing next week. It's a diet based around brown rice. I've heard about this before from other people. And it's something I'm interested to try. So here goes. This is the info the girls gave me:
Start every day with hot water and lemon, try to eat brown rice at as many meals as possible, and avoid all the following items:
Caffeine (sorry)
Alcohol
Sugar
Salt
Preservatives (no canned/packaged/frozen foods... and that means organic produce only)
Wheat
Dairy
Soy
Bananas
Peanuts
Oranges
Corn
Mushrooms
Tomatoes
Eggs
Known allergens
Some of those things seem random, but it's because these foods (like corn and soy) are in EVERYTHING.
Here are some helpful tips:
Rice milk
Rice cakes
Almond butter
Wheat-free tamari sauce (to flavour your rice with! It's full of salt, but still on the approved list!)
Hummus (add it to everything!)
Dried fruit, specifically those fruit leather bars
Spelt and dark rye breads have no wheat, but you're still not supposed to eat them. Maybe bread in its entirety is out. But I say it's okay to have some when you get the bread craving... and you will.
Honey and maple syrup! Shelley had the vague feeling that these were wrong, but nowhere were they mentioned on the food list.
Lemon and pepper for flavouring.
Does that sound like fun or what?
I'll let you know how it goes. I'm starting Monday.

What to do what to do.....
So i was thinking of trying out Weight Watchers online. I actually have their point book from a friend who is a member, however i thought it might help to have something a little more structured. She attends the meetings which she figured were about $16 a week. I'd rather not dish out that much, however their online program is $85 for 3 months and just over $60 for one month (they have a silly $40 registration fee). I'm thinking about doing the 3 months.
Any thoughts on this?

A New Year is Upon Us...
Alright folks over the holiday's i gorged myself on Chinese Food and homemade Bailey's so needless to say i gained another pound. However, with the holiday's behind i was able to get back on track on tuesday as far as my healthy eating and exercising was concerned. It's only been 3 days so next week's weigh in should be much more promising.
I've been getting up a few minutes earlier and eating breakfast at home. That was a major problem for me over the past few months, i got into the habit of grabbing breaky on the road, bagels and cream cheese....not so healthy. I'm back to my egg whites and oatmeal. I even bought some weightwatchers bread incase i wanted a piece of toast.
As well i've decided to keep a food journal. I figure this will help me keep track of what i am actually putting into my body. I'm also following the weightwatchers points and i've purchased a few of their meals to leave in the freezer at work. I'll be less likely to go out and grab take out if i have something at work to eat when i am too rushed to make a meal.
I'm really excited about this new year!! I know we are only able to count weight lost from our lowest number (like if you gain 2 pounds and then lose those 2 pounds we don't count it as weight lost) are we starting over this year though and counting from our current weight? Or going from our lowest weight last year?
