I was thinking, yes I was. I was thinking what if I had a chubby girlfriend. Now personally I have nothing against chubby, hell I actually like some chubbiness. But let’s assume that I was one of those shallow bastards who didn’t like chubby chicks. Lets not even assume chubby. Lets assume fat. Yes, lets assume fat. Lets say I had a fat girlfriend whom I was very fond of. But I wished she were thinner. I mean I wanted to be able to go out with her and with my friends without getting embarrassed, ya know. How do I tell this fat girl that hey love, you know I am nuts about you but it would make me so much happier if you were 30 pounds lighter. How?
Then lets assume I were a member of this blog too. I’d mention it to my girlfriend. I’d say why don’t you join, love. She would not show much interest. But in my haste and hope and because I wanted it oh so bad, I’d start writing on the blog that my fat girlfriend was now in competition.
This is where Jennifer and her band player boyfriend enter the picture.
Yes yes it was a long setup to a cheap blow. But I wanted to do it for a long long time.

Pissed off
Ok.
I have been doing pretty good on my diet.
I have been working out.
I drink lots of water to flush my system.
No change.
I think my body likes to be fat.
How do I change its mind?
Help!!!!

We're toast
Aaron went out shopping yesterday and bought himself new workout clothes, and then today went grocery shopping and is now conducting a healthy cooking marathon, he's made healthy gumbo and mushroom soup from my Weight Watcher's cookbook, and I think he's going to make 3 or 4 other things (peanut soup, mushroom beef barley, carrot) before he's through. I've tasted everything the bastard cooked so far and it's all delicious. He'll have enough tasty healthy things to eat all week. We're toast, I hope everyone pulls out their A game for this week, we'll all need it.
I also did some shopping, I opted for healthy food requiring less prep time. I've found that I keep buying fresh stuff and having it ready, but then not being home for dinner. So this week my strategy is that I'm going for more frozen/canned stuff. And if I need something fresh I can just nip down to the overpriced market around the corner for it instead of having it on-hand and then ending up going to Subway or somewhere instead.
He just let me try the carrot soup. That fucker can cook.

Get a load of this
This is weird. I just got back from the gym. I ran for like 30 minutes. Then lifted weight another 30 minutes and then ran back 4 blocks uphill to my apartment. I have not only lost the 2lbs I had gained but an extra lb.
I guess Thursdays are my worst days for weigh-in.

I am the Champion!
Oh yeah!
Not only did I kick all your fat asses this week with my modest performance, but I'm comfortably wearing a pair of pants today that didn't even fit me when I bought them on sale last year, when I was 10 lbs heavier. They are a lovley brown with red and beige pinstrips. One of the two pairs of winter weight pants I own, and both the same size, so I can finally stop freezing my ass off (literally) on the way to and from work.
This just goes to show that slow and steady wins the race my tubby friends.
I'm having another appointment today, seeing a doctor who does a lot of sports medicine to determine whether I'll be needing an MRI (thank the lord for socialized medicine - if you disagree with me you can take it up on my blog, this is no place for politics). So hopefully the end is in sight for my knee pains and I can get back to blasting my quads and have a little more to eat.
At the moment I'm out of sorts, hungry, I have the start of a headache, I'm tired and grumpy and while I've already been at work for an hour, I still have 12 hours to go before the end of the work day, with an excrutiating knee exam in the middle.

Sigh
So i've lost a big fat 0% as well. I'm just glad i'm not gaining. However, as some of you may have read in one of my comments, i tried on the bridesmaid dress. Let's just say the skirt is a bit big, but the top is a bit of a problem. The zipper does do up, however, it's tight as hell and will surely bust open if i attempt to sit in it. So i have less than 4 months to squeeze into this thing. No more fucking around, no more treats here and there, i have no choice. I have to be able to wear the dress. As well if you want to find me, i'll be at the gym every evening for as long as i can stand. I'm screwed.
Pink Cheeks
Apparently I took my "I can eat without pain" weekend a little too far. I suck a big fat 0%.
On a better note...I joined a gym today. It's small but it's within a 2 minute drive from my apartment and it's open 24 hours. Can't beat that. Plus it's only $25 a month and no contract.
I've thrown out the junk in my cupboards and I'm going to the grocery store tomorrow to stock up on salad stuff.

Yes children, I lost another pound. Slow and steady wins the race my dears! I'm thinking if I continue to lose a pound every week then every week my percentage gets higher, I can live with that.
I'd like to thank my lovely boyfriend for not taking me out for dinner last night. I'd like to not thank my lovely boyfriend's lovely father for taking us to a lovely restaurant on Tuesday. I'd like to not thank the people at Terry's Chocolate Oranges for making such a tasty product. I'd also like to not thank the person who lost their metropass this week prompting me to take transit everywhere. But most of all I'd like to thank myself for being such a good influence on me.
I'm going to have to step up my game this week to beat the prolific weight-loser I live with. He and I made a side comptetion and lets just say that I'd love to win that prize, but I wouldn't mind losing it so much either.

New Member Time!!!
There has been some talk that my lovely boyfriend should join our little competition... PP and Ash have both been saying that he should get in on this from the start. Well, while we were out shopping this evening he told me that he's ready to hop on board and put his money where his mouth is, and his fatty foods where his mouth is not. Yay! All welcome Heroin Aaron! I don't know if he's going to do that much trash talking on the blog, but he's very capable of blowing all you bitches out of the water on weigh-in day, so buckle down next week fatties, you're in for some stiff competition.
While we are at it, I'd like to point out that Princess Pessimism is now the proud owner of a bathroom scale and could also join the competition. There's no better time than the present!
See you all in the cold light of the Thursday morning results.

I am struggling
My new routine is tough and I havent got used to it yet. I spend an hour commuting to and from work. I have to walk 7 blocks downhill in the morning, which is no exercise. On my way back I have to walk 4 blocks uphill which is better. When I get home I am tired. Some days I dont go home but just wander around in downtown in search for a good place to eat. I just got here so I still get excited about being in the city and finding new places.
The gym here sucks. I am transfering my membership to Seattle Y but when will I find the time? I also have started studying. Although I do enjoy studying (strange as it may sound) I get tired mentally and physically.
My life has become very hectic. I am really struggling with sticking to a good fitness routine. I have to give up on downtown restaurants, not go to any bars so as not to drink, somehow find the time to workout and somehow find the energy to study AND exercise.

Monday, monday, monday
I'm feeling good today guys, I ate relatively well on the weekend, with the exception of some chocolate.
I bought new pants and some new shoes on Friday, which made me feel a whole lot better. I'm working at a casual office where everyone is very stylish, so the douchebag office wardrobe I had before doesn't cut it here really, besides most of that stuff is not fitting anymore anyway. Walking around with your pants dragging on the ground and saggy ass sucks, you'd think that it would be very satisfying, and it is for a few minutes when you put them on in your room, but walking around that all day makes you feel like you're wearing a potato sack and doesn't give any incentive not to over-eat. So I bought some pants that fit well right now and are little on the tight side so I can shrink into them.
I'm hoping for a good week, ladies, who's with me?

Someone Had To Forget
I can't believe I forgot to post. Shit. Things have just been crazy here.
First things first. I did lose 3 lbs. I don't have the formula at my finger tips so I'm not sure what that equates to percentage wise yet. I'll figure that up later. Right now my head is pounding.
I wound up with a very nasty infection in my jaw on the left side after the wisdom tooth extraction. My face has been swollen, I've had so much pain...I couldn't eat on that side and my face throbbed. My ear throbbed. My head throbbed. Even my teeth and gums throbbed. I had crap coming out of the incision sight...I was running a fever. Very nasty all around. That is why I lost weight...not my preferred method mind you. My jerk of a doctor finally got things under control and the antibiotics are finally helping so I'm feeling better. But that is why I've been MIA. I've even neglected my own blog this week.
*Sigh*
Here's to a better week!

Weigh In
Alright, I lost one pound this week thus resulting in a .56% loss. Shitty, but a loss none the less. As well i've been slaving away at the gym this week, taking various classes and trying new things. My nutrition plan has also gotten underway this week, so i am expecting to beat all you slackers next week :)
Results for Thursday February 16th
Here it is, my fabulous result. 0.58%. It's not much but I'm pretty pleased. First, not losing last week was a bummer, second, my weight during this week had creeped up there, and so, to get back to my start weight for the week and then go down another pound is no small feat, and third, the pound I lost this week was my twentieth since the start of this competition. Yay!
My results could have been better this week if I hadn't been busy and therefore unable to cook healthy meals, if I hadn't eaten chocolate fountain, or the mountain of sushi on Valentine's day, if I hadn't had two lunches yesterday as a result of meetings at work, if I hadn't broken my knee on one drunken night in 2001 - I have been completely unable to exercise this week and last. I have a doctor's appointment on Saturday, I want some Xrays and some answers! In total, it's amazing that I'm doing so well considering I'm doing all this on diet alone. And yes I do realize that I could go up to the gym and do arms or go to the pool, but I've just spent what little spare time I have lying around with a heating pad on it.
20 lbs! Yay Jennifer!
My resolution for this week is to go grocery shopping, buy more healthy food, and eat it. I will also get some Xrays and some answers, and I will try to get up to the gym and blast my guns! Although, I will not swim, for a variety of reasons.
0.58% Beat that, you lardy lardy fatties!

Exercising on the Cheap
I was reading an article in the paper titled "Exercising on the Cheap." I thought it may be helpful for some people who do not have access to a gym. Most of these are common knowledge, but what the hell.
*Take the stairs every chance you get, even if it's just one flight
*Park farther away from work, or the mall or wherever
*Buy a dog from the humane society or borrow one (this one made me giggle, it somehow does not seem as reasonable as the others)
*Turn on your radio and dance in your home
*Go to the library and borrow workout videos/DVD's
*Use the lowest stair in your home and create your own step workout
*Pair a fav tv show with situps (i'd have abs of steel if i did this)
*Check local rec centre for any exercise or team sports you can join for a reasonable price
*Got rope? Jump it for a total body workout
*Laugh
*Carry around a computer bag or backpack weighted with 5 or 10 pounds
*Use a stability ball while at work or watching tv or reading, works core muscles
*Find out if your local gym offers discounts to local grads
*Laugh

Happy Valentine's Day, Lardass!
So if you think that you are having difficulty staying away from the chocolates and cinnamon hearts today, you've got nothing on the troubles I have. They are having a freakin' chocolate fountain party in my work area. I'm serious the chocolate fountain is going to be against my desk, I'm going to have to yell into the phone to get any work done this afternoon and there's no way I can avoid eating the chocolate. Bastards! Don't they know that I 'must beat Ashley!'? I hear it's really tasty too, maybe if I just eat the fresh fruit and not the cookies it won't be so bad - but who am I kidding...

Kale with Balsalmic Vinaigrette
This is a Weight Watchers recipe that I made for the first time last week, and it was so good, I want to make it all the time now. No surprise it contains Balsalmic Vinegar. Tonight I'm trying a red cabbage recipe.
Drizzle of olive oil
6 shallots or equivalent in onions
1 tbsp Balsalmic vinegar
1/2 tsp dijon mustard
4 cups chopped kale, steamed until just wiltd
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp freshly ground pepper
In a large non-stick skillet, heat the oil. Saute the shallots until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add 1/4 cup water, the vinegar and mustard; bring to a boil. Cook, stirring constantly, 1 minute. Stir in the steamed kale; toss to combine. Sprinkle with the salt and pepper.
Per serving:
70 cal, 3g total fat, 0g saturated, 0mg cholesterol, 120mg sodium, 10g total cabs, 5g dietary fibre, 3g protein, 100mg calcium.
Points per serving: 1.

Where's the boss?
Where is jennifer? Is she ignoring us? She needs to get her ass in here right now and do a tally for this week and crack a whip or two. I thought she was managing this blog. Dont make me come over there jennifer or you know one of us would be in huge trouble.

Formula
Jennifer here's the formula. I dont know the weights so I cant really do the calcs, unless you email them to me.
Define your lowest weight achieved thus far as X. you can only have a postivie percent when you go below X in a week. As long as you stay above X, you get a negative percent even if you have lost what you gained BACK.
Example:
Week 1: 175 lbs
Week 2: 170 lbs; percent: (175-170)/175 = 2.9%
Week 3: 175 lbs; percent: (170-175)/175= -2.9%
Week 4: 172 lbs; percent is NOT (175-172)/175 = 1.7%; the actual percent should be (X-172)/X = (170-172)/170 = -1.2%.

We are really being lazy
So we started out pretty well and as it so often happens, we have all been thinking that we have come this far and what difference a few hundred chicken wings would make. This week's numbers are bad. Berly did good but all the rest of us did poorly. I am at 0% as well. I still dont have the tight abs I want and I consider that a failure.
So here is a challenge for us. I will make sure that I have a good positive percent by next Thursday. All of us need to bring on our A-games and get some good results. If we have another week like this one it would be deeply disappointing.
Lets start doing stuff we started out doing in the first couple of weeks. I will do my part. Are you willing to do yours?

You Can't Win For Losing
So you'd THINK that since I have only been able to eat mush for the last week that I'd lose lots of weight right? Well...that might have been the case had I not 'started' this week. I did not lose any weight but I didn't gain any either thank god. However...I am currently bloated as hell and feeling like crap because I've been hit with a double whammy. My only consolation is that I know at least 2 lbs of this is water weight so I'll be better in a couple of days.
Final result: 0%

Berly's results and Jennifer's results
First Berly lost 0.69 this week - way to go Berly!
Second I lost 0% this week, no gain no loss, amazing considering my pig-out this week, including 2! Count them! 2 dinners last night! What was I thinking? Well, I had dinner plans with a friend, but we weren't eating till later and when I got home the boyf had made me one of his fabulous sandwiches. He rarely ever makes me food, and it's always soooo good that I don't want to shoot myself in the foot by announcing I have a better offer, so I ate it, then I went out to this vegetarian chinese place and ate there too. I didn't have much, just a taste of each thing, but well, two dinners is a bad idea. So woohoo for no weigh gain. I had high hopes for next week but my father-in-law is taking us to my favourite Pakistani restaurant on Sunday and I don't know how I will resist the Naan, I'm drooling just thinking about it. And for that matter, I don't know how high my hopes really are, because I'm eating a brownie that one of the guys I work with had mailed to him from his mom. And I just made plans to pick up some take-out on my way to a Survivor party tonight. Booo-urns! What's wrong with me? I think you can only say no to social eating out gatherings for so long before you start seeming like a jerk. I think I need to focus on self control in restaurants. Maybe if I buy a new pair of pants in a smaller size I won't feel so schlumpy. Maybe if I wear a pair of pants that's too small tomorrow it'll remind me not to eat too much.

Oops
Well i'm afraid to say this week i will not be coming out on top. I'd like to thank all of my supporters from my previous weeks for cheering me on. To all the fatties, good luck this week. I thought i'd step out of the spotlight and give someone else a chance for once LOL. I am at the same weight as i was last week. I have neither lost nor gained, which is better than gaining i suppose. It's my own fault, i've eaten terribly and barley exercised. I'm stepping it up this week though, the months are creeping up and i don't have much time to look good for the wedding. And with Jennifer's bum knee i can get ahead if i get my ass to the gym :)

Not being defensive here
Ok I am starting a new life this Friday. And I dont know what it would do to my fitness routine. See I go to the Y close to work after work and then head back home. When I move to Seattle I will have to cancel my membership at this Y because I will be tied to a bus schedule. Plus I will want to get back home in good time. So I know I will not be working out right after work. My new place has a gym and I will have to start using that. I hope it has some good equipment.
Secondly, I have another exam coming up in June. I will have to start studying again pretty soon. I can deal with that. The thing is when I am working and then studying I have to make sure that I have enough energy. When I am studying I usually dont hold back on lattes and energy bars etc. A few weeks before exam I even start eating whatever I want to keep my mind and body energized. This will be an obstacle for me to gain complete fitness. I also have to start spending less time at the gym close to exam.
I still intend to stick to a good routine for as long as I can and, to quote jennifer ,"blow you bitches out of the water". However, if you guys have any good ideas on keeping your mind and body energized without eating a lot, or to keep awake without the gingerbread lattes, lets share those.

Motivation
I saw a shirt in my closet this morning. One I have not worn in like a year because it "shows my fat rolls".
I am going to wear that shirt by summer.
Nothing will stop me.
I have renewed motivation and determination today.
How is everyone else feeling this Tuesday?

Superbowl Sunday

This is a portrait of my weekend. I'd like to congratulate the Seahawks on their victory, too bad the refs didn't see it that way, although I question whether they saw anything at all. That was some of the worst officiating I've ever seen. I didn't even go into the game caring who won, but I felt bad for both sides. The Steelers are getting the trophy, but after that game who could look at the trophy and feel good about it? Oh well, back to my eating. This was the 100 chicken wings the boyf ordered for the game, bleh, I feel ill.

Friday Breakdown
So, once again it's time for the tally:
The winner this week was Miss Ash with a loss of 1.6
Second place goes to Linny with 1.15
Third place goes to Berly with 0.69
Fourth goes to Jennifer with 0.57
And last place this week goes to muscular Yrautca with 0
None of us gained this week, which is excellent! I'm very proud of all of us, we're all making progress and Yrautca even though he's hard on himself is making progress as well, sticking to your program is it's own reward, and if you keep with it you'll get to your target.
As I mentioned in an earlier comment, unless there are strenuous objections we'll be switching to a new evaluation system for next week, only new weightloss will be counted. So if you gain 1 pounds one week and you lose four the next week and than you'll be evaluated based on the 3 pounds of new weightloss.

A sorry affair
Donno why I am at 0% loss. I am glad I didnt gain any. I have also started spending more time in the weight room. No excuses though. I lost this week. I have never won a week. I am pathetic.
If you want to get technical
Okay...I'm doing this on the fly because I'm trying to get things together for my wisdom teeth surgery tomorrow. So here are my results.
I believe it is 1.15% which is definetly better than last week. Technically I did freakin' fantastic this week. Over the weekend I had gained like 3 lbs because of eating out with the out of town relatives. So within the last few days...not only did I lose those three pounds...but I lost 2 more. Woohoo! And since I will be on a freakin' liquid diet for a few days...we may be able to knock down a few more lbs.

Slow and Steady wins the race
Thursday rolls around once again, and I'd like to thank my fans for sticking by me in the high weightloss weeks and the low weightloss weeks. I'd like to not thank the friends who bought two bags of chips and left them by me during a boardgame session on the weekend.
My total weightloss this week was 0.57% this was my lowest weightloss yet, but other than the chips there were some extenuating factors like being starved and bummed after my disappointing cleanse. On the other hand, I've lost a total of 9.9% of my body fat in a month, which is amazing. I've gone down a size or two. I'm wearing pants today that I had to wear Spanx to get into for the BF's Christmas party in December, except today when I put the pants on they fit really comfortably and when I put my shoes on I noticed that the pants were too long because I didn't have as much bum or thigh to keep them up. Having to invest in some hemming is a small price to pay for a pretty awesome weightloss. Does anyone know a good dressmaker? Ash? I need some of my work pants altered, I'm running out. Although a couple more pounds and I'll be another size down and I'll fit into another bunch of smaller pants.
Also, I feel like I need a new system, or a new book or something, I feel like my major gains are all behind me, and while lossing a pound or so a week is nothing to sneeze at, I'd rather lose more. So I'm casting around for something new. No Atkins or anything, that's just silly.
Maybe I need something that will motivate me to exercise more. The nice weather has me walking home for an hour every night, and I've found a route that I really like, which takes me past some good shopping and through my old neighbourhood which I really miss. But the nice weather won't last forever, unless Wiarton Willie is right and Punxatawny Phil is wrong! Happy Groundhog Day! Seriously though, I can't depend on nice weather to get my exercise, not in this city. I'm thinking that I need to take up a team sport, perhaps I'll do volleyball like Ashley, or maybe some other indoor sport, or sign up for a class. I don't know, I'm going to be pondering that this week.

Funny Card
Old or New?
I don't remember how the vote turned out for way to calculate who wins. So I am giving you my percentage the old way. And the new way is confusing to me (math major I am not) so if you want that, ask Jennifer, cause I tell her what my weight is and everything.
Percentage this week is . . . +.69%.
I lost a pound.
YEAH!!
I am really proud of that percentage, seeing how I stuffed myself full of lemon blueberry scones and fish tacos while I was in San Diego.
Why am I always the first to post? Is everyone else scared????

Six fruits a day, may keep strokes away
If this is true, then I'm golden...

Toronto — When Mom or Dad told you to eat up all your fruits and vegetables “because they're good for you,” they were right — although they may not have known all the reasons why. Now researchers conclude that a daily smorgasbord of fruits and vegetables can dramatically cut the risk of suffering a stroke.
An analysis of international studies involving 257,000 people found that those who ate more than five servings of fruit and vegetables a day had a 26 per cent reduced incidence of stroke, compared with those who ate fewer than three servings daily.
Individuals who consumed three to five servings cut their stroke risk by 11 per cent, said principal investigator Dr. Feng He, a cardiovascular research fellow at the St. George's University School of Medicine in London.
“This is a finding that clearly provides strong support for the current (U.K.) recommendations to increase fruit and vegetable intake to five or more servings per day,” she said Thursday from London, noting that the average Briton eats only 2.8 servings per day.
“Based on these results, I would encourage everybody to increase their fruit and vegetable intake,” said Dr. He.
Health Canada has been advising Canadians to eat five to 10 servings of fruits and vegetables per day for more than a decade, but a national average of actual consumption hasn't been determined, said Danielle Brule of Health Canada's division of nutrition policy and promotion.
A typical serving of fruit would equal one medium apple or medium banana; a single vegetable serving would consist of 125 millilitres of raw or cooked carrots or beans, for instance, or 250 millilitres of salad.
The British researchers analyzed pooled data from eight major studies that looked at the association between fruit and vegetable consumption and stroke in men and women from Europe, Japan and the United States.
Previous studies had shown that increased fruit and vegetable consumption was related to a diminished risk of stroke — both ischemic (caused by a blood clot in the brain) and hemorrhagic (bleeding in the brain) — but the strength of the association had been uncertain.
Dr. David Spence, director of the Stroke Prevention and Atherosclerosis Research Centre at the University of Western Ontario's Robarts Research Institute, agreed that the British analysis has better quantified the link between fruit and vegetable consumption and stroke reduction.
But the London, Ont., physician said Canadians shouldn't just load up on produce.
“You could do even better if in addition to increasing your intake of fruits and vegetables, you also increase your intake of whole grains and reduce your intake of cholesterol and animal fat,” said Dr. Spence, who advises his patients to follow the Mediterranean diet.
That's because research has shown that the Mediterranean diet, which is rich in whole grains, olive and canola oils as well as fruits and vegetables — but with reduced consumption of meat, chicken and fish — can diminish the risk of stroke and heart attack by about 60 per cent.
Dr. He, whose study is published in this week's edition of The Lancet, said fruits and vegetables are loaded with potassium, antioxidants like vitamin C, folate and fibre. And while researchers aren't sure which one element (or combination) is responsible for chopping the risk of stroke, she said potassium is known to lower elevated blood pressure — a major risk factor for stroke.
That doesn't mean that popping over-the-counter supplements will have the same stroke-preventing effects as eating produce, experts say.
“Disease prevention might not be attributable to single nutrients, but to the interaction of nutrient and non-nutritive components in whole foods,” Dr. Lyn Steffen, an epidemiologist at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, writes in a commentary accompanying the study. “It is likely that the combination of nutrients and compounds in foods has greater health benefits than the individual nutrient alone.”
So how many different fruits and vegetables should one eat each day?
Since vitamins, minerals and antioxidants differ from fruit to fruit and veg to veg, Dr. Spence advises his patients to put variety on their plates.
“It turns out that the antioxidants tend to be what gives each fruit or vegetable its flavour and its colour, and so eating fruits and vegetables of all different colours gives us combinations of antioxidants that are probably more effective than anything you can get in a pill.”
