Still In Shock

Let me just say that I have never been a runner. I hated it when they made us run the mile in elementary school and I've hated running throughout my adult life simply because I was never able to make it futher than 30 feet without breathing heavy and feeling like my chest was going to explode. Pathetic, I know.

That being said, today I was watching these young girls run laps around me at the track and I thought...hmmm, just out of curiosity, I wonder how far I could get without having to fall down and die. So I waited until I was alone on the field and away from watchful eyes and I started jogging. I passed my old exhaust line of 30 feet and miraculously I kept going. I swear to you...I was so surprised that I didn't know what to do with myself. I, Linny, hater of running and painfully out of shape woman...actually ran ENTIRE lap (1/4 of a mile) without stopping. I realize that may not seem much to some people but for me...this was huge. I wanted to walk a bit and try it again but a group of guys from the track team showed up to practice and I felt too self conscious so I finished my walking and left. But I can tell you for sure...next weekend i will be getting up bright and early and trying that again.

Good for you. If you are so conscious maybe you can start the treadmill and build up stamina and then you can run along side the track teams outside.

I'm like you when it comes to running, unless i've missed the bus you probably won't see me doing it LOL.

However, these past few weeks i've also been adventurous and started to jog on the treadmill just to see how long i could go. I'm only up to 8 mins thus far, but it really is quite surprising considering i used to be winded after about a minute.

8 mins? wow Ash. Thats is really great. I mean it. Thats almost as much as many people can do. If you can run like 10 minutes and then walk 10 minutes, you are in great shape.

Ash that is really good!

I think even if we're not dropping tons of weight...we are definetly all getting in better shape. I'm so excited.

I had also noticed that running was easier before my leg went gimpy.
